Can Ortiz be robbed once again? with A-rod looking like he is having the worst year of his career at the halfway point can Ortiz finally be given the respect he deserves?
Ortiz has re-written the role of the designated hitter and along the way has given a new meaning to the word clutch.
In a recent question and answer session on Bostondirtdogs.com the redsox general manager was asked if the team could of won the world series in "04" without Ortiz? He responded by trying to deflect the obvious answer by saying that every player on that team was important.
Ortiz single handedly won the ALCS from the Yankees and beat the best closer in history on back to back nights to do it. "Big Poppy will finish with somewhere around 8 years of team service when he retires or moves on and then the real question will be does the RedSox organization retire his number? The team would have to bend or amend their own rules but if not for Ortiz and his "clutchness" the RedSox would be still 86 years and counting.....
Ortiz deserved the MVP in 05 for sure and a decent arguement could of been made for MVP in 04 if he were not handicapped by his position on the team. It is Most Valuable Player and Ortiz despite his position as DH has been every bit the MVP of the Boston RedSox and in the American League. The first DH in history will win the MVP this year and should be the MVP of the RedSox Nation for a long, long, long time to come...........
